// How DSPs evaluate pitches
Editorial teams are data analysts. They look for evidence your audience already cares: pre-saves, save rate, playlist adds, and engagement. Mood tags tell them where to shelve it. Numbers tell them why it's worth a slot.
// Official DSP Pitch Guides
🟢
Spotify for Artists
Official Pitch Guide ↗
Submit at least 4 weeks (28 days) before release — Spotify's minimum for editorial consideration. Inside that window, the pitch won't be reviewed.
One song at a time. Once your pitched song is live, you can pitch the next.
Can't pitch compilations or songs you're featured on — only your own lead releases.
Anyone with Admin or Editor access can view and edit the pitch.
Editable up to release day, but late changes may not be seen by editors.
Once live, the song is no longer eligible for editorial pitching.
📦
Amazon Music for Artists
Official Pitch Guide ↗
Must be new, never-released music with streaming rights delivered to Amazon.
One track per release (single, EP, or album) — pick your strongest cut.
Accepts pitches up to 14 days after street date — wider window than Spotify.
Context beats genre alone. "Dark pop about heartbreak" gets placements that "pop" never will.
"Genre is important, but so is context and mood… especially when an artist is up-and-coming and folks may not be familiar with their musical identity." — Amazon Music editorial team

Paid Advertising

Run smarter ads on Meta & TikTok — amplify what's already working
When to run ads
Start ads no more than 2 weeks before release. The real play is amplifying momentum — when a video takes off organically (significantly more engagement than your usual posts), that's when you increase spend. Trying to force virality with ads burns budget and tanks your algorithm.
Don't pay for virality
Pushing ad spend on a video with low organic engagement will get you views but tank your engagement rate. The algorithm reads this as "people don't care" and suppresses future content. Only amplify what's already resonating.
Meta Ads// Instagram & Facebook
📱Boost Post / Reel
Simplest option. Boost a post or Reel that's already performing well. Good for reach but limited targeting and optimization options.
✓ Easy to set up, quick
✗ Limited targeting, no retargeting pixels
Best for: quick reach on content already getting engagement
🎯Ads Manager Campaign
Full control through Meta Ads Manager. Set specific objectives (traffic, conversions, reach), build custom audiences, A/B test creatives, and retarget viewers.
✓ Granular targeting, retargeting, analytics
✗ Steeper learning curve, requires creative assets
Best for: driving saves, pre-saves, link clicks with a clear funnel
🤝Creator / Influencer Ads
Partner with creators and whitelist their content as sponsored ads. Feels native, builds trust, and lets you reach their audience with paid distribution.
✓ Authentic feel, high engagement
✗ Requires partnerships, content approval
Best for: reach through trusted voices, building awareness
TikTok Ads// TikTok Ads Manager
🔥Spark Ads
Boost an existing organic TikTok (yours or a creator's with permission). Keeps all engagement on the original post — views, likes, comments all stack. This is the go-to for music promotion.
✓ Engagement stacks on original, feels organic
✗ Need existing content performing above average
Best for: amplifying a video that's already outperforming your average
📹In-Feed Ads
Standard TikTok ad that appears in the For You feed. Full creative control. Can drive to external links (pre-save, Spotify, website).
✓ Link clicks, full control, broad targeting
✗ Engagement doesn't stick on your profile, feels like an ad
Best for: driving traffic to a landing page or pre-save
🎵Music Promotion (Add to Library)
TikTok's music-specific ad format. Lets users add your sound directly from the ad. Builds your sound usage count which can drive organic adoption.
✓ Direct sound adoption, feeds the algorithm
✗ Limited availability, varies by region
Best for: building sound usage during release week and post-release

Advertising Playbook// Rules of engagement
01
Only boost what's already working
If a video is getting 2-3x your average views/engagement within the first few hours, that's your signal. Put money behind momentum, not hope.
02
Stay within 2 weeks of release
Ads more than 2 weeks out from your release date have diminishing returns. People forget. Compress your window and make every dollar count in the final stretch.
03
Start small, scale what converts
Start with $5-10/day. Test 2-3 creatives. Kill what's not working after 48 hours. Scale the winner. Never set a big daily budget on untested content.
04
Use Spark Ads on TikTok as your default
Spark Ads let you boost an organic TikTok while keeping all the engagement on the original post. Views, likes, comments all stack. This is the gold standard for music promo on TikTok.
05
Match your objective to your phase
Pre-release: awareness and pre-saves. Release week: conversions (streams, saves). Post-release: retarget warm audiences. Don't run "reach" campaigns when you need "clicks."
06
Track everything, even small spends
Log every campaign. $20 on a boost that got 50 saves is a different story than $20 that got 2,000 views and 0 saves. Without data, you can't improve.
